Streaming Video |
Streaming live video over the internet or a local network provides a fast frame rate - image update and can be as fast as real tme. This is the best way to view webcams, IP cameras or CCTV over the internet because you dont have the time lag that you do with FTP image update. There are a number of ways of accomplishing live video feeds and these depend on the equipment in use, the quality and speed you require and the upload speed (not the download speed) of your internet connection. JAVA streaming can give up to 5-6 FPS with a good connection and is the most cross platform and browser compatible method of streaming. It is also easy to incorporate JAVA streaming into web pages. Active X is a faster method but requires Internet Explorer to operate correctly. Flash streaming is becoming more popular and can provide near real time video displays. WMV or Windows Media streaming is a method which is pretty browser freindly too and easy to incorporate into web pages. With Windows Media Streaming you can also stream directly to Windows Medial Players and compatible players simply by entering the URL of the video stream. Windows Media Streaming uses "buffered" video, i.e. it acts like a sort of reservoir allowing faster and slower delivery of images as necessary to compensate for fluctuations in connection speed and generall provides a near real time video display. However the display can be from 20 seconds to a minute or so behind the actual event dependant on the buffering applied. At camsecure.co.uk you can find out more about all these streaming methods along with software and hardware to get the job done. They also have their own really easy streaming software called Camsecure Viewstream which is very easy to use, very cheap and streams in Windows Media Format. See these methods in action in our Live Webcams section. |
