Webcam Advisor
The easiest and simplest way to get pictures on your site is to use the FTP method, this
stands for File Transfer Protocol. All webcam programs have this option as it is the most
basic way to put webcam images on a web page. Some programs such as Active Webcam
let you use FTP as well as streaming video and also let you publish cameras on to multiple
sites using a variety of methods such as active x, image pull and FTP all at the same
time.........but lets not run before we can walk!
Getting Your First Pictures On Your Site
I hope this site is usefull to you and i am sure you will have great fun and lots of enjoyment in the wonderfull world of WEBCAMS.
Images uploaded with FTP
With FTP the program captures a still image from the camera every few seconds or minutes
and uploads it to your web site. Some code in your web page then loads the image into the
page so you see it change at the time interval you have set. Here are some examples and
for more examples of FTP and real time/streaming images check out the live pictures
section.

The advantages of FTP are that it will work with any browser, it can be used for dial up
connections to update a site with a weather outlook or act as a surf camera making a call
every hour or so, and its very easy to set up. Most webcam software uses an FTP setup
wizard to guide you and some will even generate the web page for you or give you the code
so you can cut and paste it into your own pages. CoffeeCup Webcam gives you both
options while you are configuring the FTP settings and Active Webcam has a page creation
wizard for all its broadcast methods.
The biggest disadvantage of FTP for webcam pictures is that it has a slow update compared
to other methods........But its a great place to start and for many applications its good
enough.
