Webcam Advisor
You dont have to use dedicated webcams to get pictures on your website and over the
internet. You can use virtually any video device such as CCTV cameras, domestic
camcorders, even the TV and Sattellite decoders to broadcast over the internet. All you need
is a capture device. Many modern digital photographic cameras and even cellphones have
built in USB interfaces that you can use with any of the Webcam Software here. But you can
also get capture cards with up to 32 inputs for your PC and there is a wide range of USB
devices which let you simply plug them in and connect any video source to them and use
them as Webcams.
I hope this site is usefull to you and i am sure you will have great fun and lots of enjoyment in the wonderfull world of WEBCAMS.
How to use different cameras as Webcams
Check Out Our TOP 3's
Check ou the Capture Devices section for full details of some of the best interfaces available.
Some units such as the Haupage and the Dazzle units even have built in TV tuners. For
using things like CCTV cameras where you might want multiple cameras to be available your
best bet is to use a capture card......... but if you cant then i have the answer.
If you want to use multiple webcams on the same PC then you will need to use different
models as the drivers will otherwise conflict. BUT...... you can get single channel USB
interfaces with audio as well which have a unique driver code for each device. You must use
the driver and license number provided or it wont work. This way Active Webcam..... in fact
any of the reviewed software will look at each USB device separatley as if they were different
cameras with no address conflicts........Check out the Capture Devices section for more
information. A word of warning though.....dont buy the 4 way units and expect them to work
well with webcam software. These units come with specific software to detect the individual
channels. Webcam software checks for a device so a four way unit will be treated the same
as a single way. These USB devices are great and if you check out the Live Pictures section
you can see them in action now.
Another method is to use dedicated IP cameras. These clever units have a built in webserver so you dont need a PC to connect them
to the internet. While this can be an advantage..........they are much more expensive and you need an individual address for each
camera. With the software reviewed here you can use multiple cameras with one IP or even use FTP with a dynamic IP and still get
images on your site very economically indeed. Check out the software and spend time experimenting for yourself to see which option
is the right one for you.
